Today is Friday, 3rd April 2009 and it is now around 9 am Malaysian time.
As I am writing this, we Malaysians will be getting our new Prime Minister. Yes, the leader of an elected government, the honcho of a cabinet or simply the kepala bapak of all Malaysians.
So far in my life, I witnessed only one premiership transition, the one in 2003. I think it was somewhere after PMR that I had so much free time to watch the whole formalities on live national broadcast channel.
We had 5 prime ministers so far, and each of them has their own story worth to be made into a movie each.
This time, it comes in the form of Mohd Najib bin Abdul Razak, son of the late Bapa Pembangunan.
Literally, the future of the country is in his hands (those required to angkat sumpah). Angkat jangan tak angkat.
It is also worth noted that the semi-mystical Rahman theory is now completed.
I can only say it is all coincidental, nothing prophecy about it. But it is fun to play around with it and be creative by speculating the meaning behind the theory.
Well, apparently Lim Kit Siang tops my list as the most creative.
"This also raises the question whether the 'N' in the most famous political prophecy in the country, RAHMAN about the first six Prime Ministers in the country, has a double meaning. That it signifies Najib as Prime Minister after Tunku Abdul Rahman, Razak, Hussein Onn, Mahathir and Abdullah, but it also marks the 'end' of the line of Umno Prime Ministers, UMNO hegemony and Umno government in the next 13th general election."
Touche. Okay not really, but it's not that bad.
Speaking of name and coincidence, I know one other Najib myself. I met him few years ago when I was studying in Kuala Kangsar. He is now in Egypt doing Medicine. I am sure he will get annoyed eventually with jokes of him being the new Prime Minister.
Just like what happened to another friend of mine when Mawi won Akademi Fantasia 2. Eleh buat-buat salah pula, Akademi Fantasia 3 lah.
Ada apa dengan nama. Apa nama.
Anyway, I can only wish anyone who wants to be, or in this case about to be, and in few hours will be a Prime Minister the very best of luck.
P.S. Mohd Najib bin Abdul Razak attended University of Nottingham to do Industrial Economics sometime ago, and I can only think of a better Nottingham Malaysian Games in years to come.
As a kid, I believed that Rahman theory with a passion! Heh.
Well, for the moment, all we can do is pray and hope for Najib to lead Malaysia to its better days. The Economist has been following Malaysian politics quite closely in the past months. The most recent one carried a story on Najib's succession, entitled "Um, no change". As always, the cynical tone, and unabashed comments were present.
I'm pretty sure the world is waiting and has a lot to say. Hope the man do us, its people, some good. More globally, hope he does Malaysia some good on this stage that is the world.
